WThe Khesed Church branding project aimed to establish a bold yet timeless identity that challenges conventional church norms while honoring tradition in a way that feels deeply authentic and inclusive. Rooted in the meaning of its name — “God’s Steadfast Love” — Khesed embraces an identity that fosters belonging, acceptance, and spiritual adventure for people from all walks of life, particularly those who may feel disillusioned or disconnected from typical church experiences.
Drawing inspiration from enduring elements and a commitment to honoring each individual’s unique story, the rebrand seeks to create a sanctuary that feels both grounded and dynamic, where individuals of all ages can find healing, connection, and purpose.
DESIGN NOTES:
The Khesed Church logo features a distinctive medallion emblem that represents the church's three core tenets: a mountain for Scripture, trees for Story, and a flame for Spirit. This meaningful emblem is paired with a timeless typeface combination, blending a classic serif with an all-caps sans serif for a clean and enduring design.
The color palette exude the desired feel of sturdiness, safety, warmth, home, and timelessness, as well as fitting nicely with the Pacific Northwest landscape.
The typography system combines an elegant serif with a modern sans serif in various styles and weights, creating a timeless, strong, yet approachable aesthetic. This pairing is carefully designed to complement the logo without overshadowing it in joint applications.
The raw edge texture serves as a supporting brand element, used as a border or decorative accent in designs. This feature underscores the brand’s raw, adventurous spirit.
The three values — mountain, flame, and tree — can be separated from the logo and utilized as standalone minimalist icons across the brand. Each element can also be paired with its corresponding brand color: deep blue for the mountain, red-brown for the flame, and green for the tree, reinforcing their individual identities.
